Marinaro was raised by Louis John, his father but his mother’s details are still unknown to the public. He attended New Milford High School and later joined Cornell University. Moreover, he developed a love for football during his childhood. He played from his high school, New Milford in New Jersey, and for the school team, New Milford High School Knights.

In addition, he set over 16 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) as he continued the streak in his college and for Cornell University. Additionally, he was the first running back in the NCAA history to run for 4,000 career rushing yards and in 1971. He also led his nation to rush back in.

Likewise, he was the runner-up for an Ivy League player ever since the league de-emphasized football in the mid-1950s to Pat Sullivan for the Heisman Trophy.
