Hall went to Hillsboro High School. She then joined Howard’s University Business School where she graduated with a degree in accounting in 1986.
After graduation, Hall worked as a Certified Public Accountant. However, she hated her job as an accountant so she left after two years to pursue different career path.
Hall then worked as a model for several years. She walked runways in Paris, London, and Milan. Later, Hall decided to pursue a culinary career. She went on to enroll at L’Academie de Cuisine in Bethesda, Maryland, graduating with a Culinary Career Training certificate.
After acquiring a certificate in Culinary Arts, Hall went on to serve an externship at the Henley Park Hotel, where she was then promoted to sous chef. She then served as an executive chef at the Garden Cafe in the State Plaza Hotel, and executive chef of the Washington Club, a private social club.
In 2001, Hall launched her catering company, which is now called Alchemy by Carla Hall. She has also written a cook book titled Cooking with Love: Comfort Food that Hugs You.
In addition, Hall competed in Top Chef season 5 in 2008 and in Top Chef: All-Stars season 8. She was a runner-up in season 5 of Top Chef and finished in fifth place overall in Top Chef season 8. Hall was also the Fan Favorite in Top: All-Stars season 8.
