Missanell began his career as a writer for the Philadelphia Inquirer. Later, relocated eventually over to radio where he served on-air at 610 WIP. Throughout his time at WIP, he was engaged in controversy after criticizing Philadelphia Eagles kicker David Akers through an interview. Furthermore, he called Ackers a “girl” criticized him for not being “a real athlete” and as well referred to him as “just a kicker”. Additionally, in 2006 he was fired from 610 WIP after an altercation with an on-site producer in which it was alleged that he hit the producer.

In addition to him being fired, he started to show with comedian Joe Conkin on 93.3 WMMR. Additionally, him working on radio, in 2000 Mike joined PHL 17 where he served as a sports director and anchor. Moreover, he left when his contract expired in 2003. Furthermore, he then signed a multi-year deal ar ESPN affiliate 97.5 The Fanatic in January 2010, to host the midday show. Additionally, the show then starting 2018 and started simulcasting on NBC Sports.

Consequently he apologized for having a fake caller and for the racial stereotypes of the character, besides, he denied having knowledge that the caller was fake. Furthermore, in 2017, he was fired from a weekly gig he had on 6 ABC after he made he said it became “unnatural” for a female broadcaster to call an NFL game.

In May 2020, he got into a heated debate with producer Tyrone Johnson and sports update anchor Natalie Egenolf informing an incident in Central Park where a white woman called the police on a black man who became birdwatching. Additionally, in January 2022, he gave an interview where he said he has no plans to retire. Later, he announced on air on May 31, 2022, that it would be his last show.
