Ali-Khan began her broadcasting career with the BBC after completing her master’s degree, working on Asian and mainstream programs at BBC Radio Lancashire.
In the year 2000, Ali-Khan moved to Birmingham and started hosting Drive on the BBC Asian Network and Radio 5 Live stations. She was just in a management capacity for the first six months, then she job-shared that while also doing Drive, and then she went full-time into presenting, which has always been her primary love.
Ali-Khan joined ITV Central in 2005 after a five-year stint with the BBC. Before going on maternity leave in mid-2008, Ali-Khan was a co-host of the East edition of Central Tonight with Steve Clamp. During this time, Ali-Khan also occasionally hosted the ITV Weekend News.
On 2 February 2009, she returned from maternity leave to co-host the West Midlands edition of the show. The show was amalgamated with the East Midlands edition a fortnight later and rebranded ITV Central.
Following the merger, Ali-Khan became one of the primary co-presenters of the ITV News Central pan-regional evening edition. She frequently shared the broadcasting duties with fellow presenter Bob Warman. From 2020, Ali-Khan will deliver the ITV Weekend News on a sporadic basis.
