Shanley made her acting debut in a nearby theater at the age of eight. She became a member of “Teen Source” in high school, a theater troupe whose goal is to educate kids about social concerns. In order to further her career, she moved to Los Angeles in 2007. There, she was able to obtain a lot of guest-starring roles. Caswell started working as a model at the age of 15. She also attended UCLA to study cultural anthropology.
She made her feature film debut in the Hallmark Channel television movie Mending Fences, and she landed her first significant film part as one of the stars in the horror movie Detention, in which she starred as Riley Jones. Her second feature film, The Conjuring, featured her in the supporting role of Andrea Perron. She also portrayed the title character in the fairy tale retelling Snow White: A Deadly Summer.
